If you have questions we have answers

At Ursa Counseling & Wellness, we know that starting therapy, whether it’s individual counseling, couples work, or family support, can bring up a lot of questions. Our FAQ page is here to help you feel informed, comfortable, and confident as you take the next step in your mental health journey.

Here, you’ll find clear, compassionate answers about how virtual therapy works, what to expect in your first session, insurance and payment details, confidentiality, and how our clinicians support a wide range of needs, from anxiety and trauma to relationship concerns and addiction recovery.

If you’re exploring therapy for the first time or returning after some time away, we hope these FAQs offer guidance and reassurance. And if you don’t see your question answered, our team is always here to help.

My sessions with clients are collaborative. This is your therapy and I want you to get out of it what you desire. I provide a warm, curious, and encouraging atmosphere. I am dedicated to making clients feel supported and understood, while also being direct.  Our first session together will last about 60 minutes. In the first few sessions, the main goal is to make you feel comfortable and to provide a safe space, free of judgement, for you to discuss vulnerable topics. We will take our time, easing into the issues you may feel uneasy talking about. After we have started to build our therapeutic relationship, I encourage you to attend sessions with an idea of what you are hoping to discuss. Taking control of and ownership of your progress will help you move toward change faster..

We need to update

Yes! Currently I am offering tele-health during the pandemic. Insurance coverage for tele-health is different for every company, so please call your provider to verify benefits.

Yes. I am INN with BCBS PPO and Aetna. I am out-of-network for all other providers. I work on sliding scale based on income and individual need.

I understand that there are times when you must miss an appointment due to emergencies or life happenings. If an appointment is not cancelled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance you will be charged the full session fee ($150) for late cancel/no show. Insurance and sliding scale fees are not applicable to the late cancellation fee.

This depends greatly on factors such as the issue, motivation, accountability, as well as many others. I like to keep the length of therapy as an open conversation throughout the process, checking-in on how we’re doing with getting you to your goals.

I do not provide an on-call emergency answering service. On nights and weekends, you may leave a voicemail or send an email, but I may not respond until regular office hours. If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Absolutely. Yes, our sessions are confidential. There are some ethical and legal limitations to that rule that we will discuss in our first session.

No. I am not a psychiatrist, but can refer you to one if we think it would benefit your mental health and progress.
